Difficulty: Level 9 Somewhere in the heart of the steaming jungle island in the middle of Dreadwater Lake lies the answer to the whispered tales -- rumors of a magnificent city and horrid rituals! There a hero might find riches and wonders -- or death! Does NAME dare face the hissing warriors who skulk through its tangled streets?
The trees grew thin and the air damp as NAME approached the shores of Dreadwater Lake. A thick mist covered the majority of the lake. Few know why the bottom of the lake is constantly churned up filling the waters with silt.
NAME crossed to the mist-shrouded island in the middle of the lake.
Encounter 5: Forest
Encounter 6: Forest
The adventure continues . . .
NAME stumbled through the jungle ferns and bushes into a cleared area surrounding a vine-tangled walled city. Rising above its center stood an awe-inspiring temple. Occasionally a disturbing hissing sound echoed from within the ancient structure.
NAME spotted the yuan-ti on the top of the wall before it saw her/him. It was covering the path ahead with a longbow. There was a valuable looking carved jade idol in a sconce on the far side. Unfortunately, several more yuan-ti on patrol were approaching from behind NAME, and she/he had to get across very soon.
NAME picked up a small rock and tossed it over the wall above the sniper's head. When it turned to see what made the sound, NAME quickly and quietly padded past. Idol in hand she/he continued deeper into the temple.
Not thinking of anything better to do, NAME dashed across the gap. When she/he got to the other side, she/he found an arrow in her/his back. She/He had to grab the idol and hurry on ahead as the sniper shouted to the patrol to give chase.
Encounter 13: Final Encounter Text
The golden idol of the snake stood innocently on a stone pedestal. NAME was suspicious, but his/her inspection of the area revealed nothing. In the end, he/she couldn't resist the temptation and snatched the idol.
There was a hole in the pedestal underneath the idol! A snake shot out of the hole and bit NAME on the hand. He/She collapsed on the floor but kept a strong grip on the idol. After quivering for a few minutes he/she began to feel better, and soon stumbled out of the temple and back to town for a big payday.
There was a hole in the pedestal underneath the idol! A snake shot out of the hole and bit NAME on the hand. He/She collapsed onto the floor and the idol rolled out of his/her limp hand. When she/he awoke he/she was in his/her rowboat floating on Dreadwater Lake. Someone had left a scary carved idol in the boat, probably meant as a warning never to return. It sold well to a collector back in town.
